"Northeastern Wisconsin's Gay Entertainment Guide"

"The Green Apple" publication was started by Mark Mariucci along with the Green Bay, Fox Valley and Sheboygan bars that were organizing the Rainbow Over Wisconsin group at the time. It was a volunteer effort, printed and distributed by Mark on his own time, and basically a collection of ads for gay and lesbian bars and restaurants in Green Bay and Appleton, Wisconsin. The ads covered the cost of printing the issues, but could not sustain itself as a commercial venture.

The venture lasted for just about 6 months, after which its primary creator and contributor, Mark Mariucci, decided to go out on his own and start a new magazine as a commercial venture. That new venture was the birth of Quest magazine.
